RDAC, a Driving Mobility Centre in Solihull, has successfully held the latest PWMS Retailer Training Scheme event for mobility product retailers in the West Midlands. This educational day was well attended by powered wheelchair and mobility scooter retailers, who all qualified in the latest assessment skills that aim to ensure their customers receive the most appropriate products. Training also focused on how to give safe driving guidance to customers so ultimately, road safety is improved for all.
Attendees had previously completed the online part of the training. By combining this remote module with hands-on training at RDAC, retailers were able to gain a wide-ranging set of new skills. Occupational Therapists led the training which included desk-based activities and practical outdoor sessions with several different types of scooter. The group were able to explore product designs and features in relation to different medical conditions whilst discussing the process of recommending the right product for maximum safety and independence.
The latest cohort of qualified retailers will now be using their knowledge on a daily basis as they provide powerchairs and scooters to customers with restricted mobility. They all qualified with flying colours and received a Driving Mobility certificate, endorsed by the Department for Transport, to be proudly displayed in their respective showrooms.
