The inaugural Older Road User conference is being jointly organised by Road Safety GB, New View Consultants and the RAC Foundation and will focus on the following issues:
- To identify safety issues relating to older road users
- To showcase current interventions and initiatives
- To identify gaps in current provision
- To outline challenges and actions for road safety professionals, government and other stakeholders.
Edward Trewhella, Driving Mobility CEO, will be speaking at the Conference on Medical Fitness to Drive Assessments as a Means of Establishing and Addressing the Needs of Older Drivers.
The presentation will describe Driving Mobility’s approach – in partnership with the DfT, DVLA and the DVA(NI) – to conduct fitness-to-drive assessments for older road users as well as how Driving Mobility works with a range of stakeholders including IAM RoadSmart, local authority road safety teams and the police to provide support for confidence building and road safety, and health professionals and local transport advisory services to ensure that all options are explored to enable continued independence.
