29th October 2020, 11am-12 noon. Via Zoom and hosted by BAS at: www.dadvirtual.org.uk
Sean Barratt, representing Driving Mobility, will be supporting this video workshop at the Disability Awareness Day virtual event so drivers with restricted mobility can discover more about assisted driving. He will be accompanied by Bill Bradley, Managing Director, BAS (NW); and Helen Dolphin MBE, Consultant and BAS (NW) Brand Ambassador.
Synopsis: In December 1997, Helen Dolphin lost all of her limbs. She thought driving would be completely impossible but with a small number of adaptations, she was back on the road. Helen now works for many organisations such as the Department for Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Motability and Heathrow Airport where she advises them on making transport more accessible for disabled people. She will be joined by Sean Barratt who is a Centre Manager for RDAC – a Driving Mobility assessment centre based in Salford, Manchester. As with all Driving Mobility centres across the UK, RDAC provides driving and mobility assessment for clients who self-refer or are signposted from the DVLA, Motability, the Police and healthcare professionals such as GPs and Occupational Therapists.
Helen, Bill and Sean together will cover the entire process of driving with vehicle adaptations – from the initial assessment, right through to receiving the car with your new adaptations fitted. You will be able to put your driving questions to them after the presentation.
